Clover was founded in 2010 by Leonard Speiser, John Beatty and Kelvin Zheng to build a cloud point-of-sale platform. First Data acquired the company in 2012, and the first Clover Station launched in 2013.
Fiserv completed its combination with First Data in 2019, and Clover became Fiserv’s flagship offering for small and medium businesses. The hardware line has grown from Station to Mini, the Flex handheld, Station Duo with its customer-facing display, and the Clover Kiosk, while the Clover App Market opens the platform to third-party inventory, loyalty and online-ordering software.
In Canada, Clover was introduced through financial-institution partnerships, including First West Credit Union brands in British Columbia from 2019, and a strategic relationship with TD Bank to scale distribution nationally. The Canadian merchant base is concentrated in retail, services and food service.
